Teenagers are among some of the coolest people on the planet! Their zest for life is positively contagious! Unfortunately, many teens drop out of church once high school is behind them. A LifeWay Research study shows that 70% of young adults who indicated they attended church regularly for at least one year in high school do, in fact, drop out. It’s encouraging that almost 2/3 of those do return to church, but many not until later in life. Of those who dropped out of church, 80% said that they never intended to drop out of church once they graduated high school, but it was just something that happened.
Why? Why would it be so easy to let a walk with Christ slip away after high school. Those same teens who dropped out said they wanted the church to help guide their decisions in everyday life and when that support ended, so did their faithful walk. The most common statement among those who did not drop out of church after graduation was that at least one adult from church made a significant investment them personally and spiritually.
Our desire at NCC is to do just that; invest, personally and spiritually, in the lives of teens so that they learn the spiritual skills to become Christ-like adults, and head off the drop out rate. Ecclesiastes says, “Don’t let the excitement of youth cause you to forget your Creator. Honor him in your youth before you grow old and say, “Life is not pleasant anymore.” (Eccl. 12:1 NLT) Solomon knew the importance of investing spiritually in young people and so do we at NCC. We seek to impact our teens through relevant and practical teaching and personal discipleship. And, yes, we like to have fun too!
Rooted! meets every Wednesday @ 7pm in the NCC youth building.
